Although still a transcription and arrangement for the guitar and not a literal vihuela tablature transcription, this version should be more readable and somewhat truer to the original vihuela tablature. Changed some fingering in measures 30, 32, and 33 to match original tablature. Reverted note additions to measures 30 and 33, leaving only notes occuring in original tablature. He was born in Granada and the earliest surviving references to him indicate that as early as he was a member of the household of Francisco de los Cobos y Molinaa well-known and very successful patron of the arts who was the Secretary of State and commentator for the kingdom of Castile under Charles V.
There is some debate over whether the full composition consists of four or seven variations. The remaining music comprises villancicos, romances, and a Baxa de contrapunto. In the process of retranscribing and renotating the piece using LilyPond, I made some changes to fingering.
Confusion arises because the luuys following work in the original manuscript, Otras tres diferencias hechas por otra parteis not listed on the title page or index. The second of the two songs is wrongly attributed to Gombert, it is a work of Jean Courtois.

Guárdame las vacas by Luys de Narváez –
The intabulations are of high quality, but without any particular distinguishing features. As you can tell from the revision history below, I’ve made other changes over time, eventually reverting two instances where I had added extra notes to form chords to make a note sound fuller.
It consists of a set of variations on a Narvsez folk theme. The new version matches more closely the original vihuela tablature by playing the measure in first position. The original right-hand fingering was rather unnatural.
Instead, the title page refers to siete diferencias de guarda me las vacas. My transcription allows you to play the vacaz in the guitar’s normal tuning. Renotated using LilyPond, making some notational improvements along the way. The first two volumes contain fourteen polyphonic fantasias, modelled after Italian pieces of the same kind. The new fingering uses the thumb more and lus more playable. Today, quatro is spelled cuatro. The collection begins with a preface, in which the composer dedicates the work to his patron Francisco de los Cobos.

Actively Maintained LilyPond Output. Guardame las vacas and Conde clarosboth in volume six. If you have trouble with the left-hand fingering for the scale run in measure 22, you’ll have to come up with an alternate natvaez.
The most notable change is in measure 28, which I used to play with a fourth-position barre.
